My Approach
My approach has been shaped by years of working with people who feel stuck. Not because they haven’t tried hard enough. Not because they lack insight or understanding. But because their nervous systems are still holding on.
Many people come to therapy able to clearly tell their stories. They have awareness, language, and insight, yet their bodies remain tense, vigilant, or exhausted, responding as if the past is still present. Over time, I’ve come to meet this feeling of being stuck with deep compassion. When the body doesn’t feel safe, change can seem out of reach. The nervous system learns through experience, not logic. It continues to protect us long after danger has passed, doing its best to keep us safe.
This understanding is at the heart of my work. I integrate talk therapy with Somatic Experiencing™ to gently slow things down. I listen not only to words, but also to breath, sensation, and rhythm. Together, we can create the conditions for the nervous system to feel supported enough to soften, settle, and begin to trust the present moment.
I don’t believe healing happens through pushing or fixing. It happens through safety, attunement, and care. This work is for those who feel tired of trying to think their way out of pain, for those who sense that something within needs gentleness, not more effort.
At Balance Within, you’re invited to move at the pace of your nervous system, toward greater ease, presence, and a deeper sense of regulation within your own body.
About Me
Jackee Evans
Registered Social Worker (BSW, MSW)
Registration #812146
My name is Jackee Evans, and I am a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Social Work, in the province of Ontario. I bring over 20 years of experience supporting individuals navigating mental health, trauma, and substance use challenges. I have been in private practice since 2023.
I believe in meeting people where they are and honouring each person’s unique journey. My approach is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and a genuine respect for the strengths each individual brings. I focus on supporting those experiencing trauma, anxiety, substance use concerns, ADHD, and work–life challenges, helping people build resilience and reconnect with a sense of balance and well-being.
I am EMDRIA Certified, trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) since 2019, and I specialize in helping individuals process and heal from trauma. I also have advanced training in couple and family therapy through Wilfrid Laurier University. In addition, I am currently completing the Intermediate level of Somatic Experiencing™ training and am pursuing my Somatic Experiencing™ Practitioner (SEP) designation. This ongoing training supports my commitment to a holistic, mind-body approach to healing.
In my personal life, I value staying active as a way to maintain balance and clarity. I cherish time spent with family and friends, and I am a devoted animal lover who finds comfort and joy in the companionship of my pets. These parts of my life keep me grounded and continually remind me of the importance of connection to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us.
Modalities
Somatic Experiencing Therapy
Somatic Experiencing™ is a gentle, body-based form of therapy that aims to help people recover from trauma, chronic stress, and nervous system overwhelm.
Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, it is based on the understanding that trauma is not defined by what happened to you, but by how your nervous system responded and adapted to it.
Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an extensively researched, proven therapy designed to help people recover from trauma and PTSD. Beyond trauma, research shows EMDR is highly effective for anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, and addiction.
